Dear Mrs. Zrihen,
I just finished reading John F. Kennedy: A photographic story of a life. By: Howard S. Kaplan. The genre of this book is biography I got this book on my own because I didn't know anything about John (Jack) F. Kennedy and I thought it would be interesting learn about him. My favorite part of the book was when he married Jacqueline Bouvier because he finally settled down and that’s around the time he got a career in politics.
I used six strategies while reading this book, two before, two during, and two after. The two before are: 1) I read the prologue. 2) I went online and looked up some facts about John F. Kennedy to know a little about him before I read. The Two during are: 1) I read ALL of the subtitles to find out like quick facts ect. 2) I would look at the title of the next chapter so I know what I am reading ahead of time (for example chapter 3 was called “Jack at school”). The two strategies I used after I read are: 1) summarized the whole book in my head. 2) I discussed it with my mom.
The main idea of this book was explaining John (Jacks) life and who he was before and after his death. It talked about his youth up until chapter 4. I learned a lot while reading like, Jack was a very sick child since he got the scarlet fever ( a very cont-agious illness back then), his mother, Rose kept a box with flash cards of her children ( by 1932 9 in total) medical conditions, Jacks was the longest. I also learned he was a mischievous child,a slob and not so good of a student on the other hand, his older brother (by two years) Joe jr was not mischievous, very neat, and such a good student that when he went to boarding school he was named best student of the school in general since the school was founded! So he was often compared to his brother in a bad way. Then I learned a lot about what happened during the race against Nixon.
The text features of this book are the table of contents, bold faced words, a lot of pictures, and a bunch of caption.
The book is written in 3rd person point of view because some one was narrating. There were similes , and metaphors (because Jack was compared to a lot of things. The book had an even amount of his youth young adult hood and his adult hood.
If I were to re name the book a I named it: 1961-1963: The story of John F. Kennedy. The authors purpose of this was to inform.
I would rate this book 8-10 because this book had captions, quick facts ect but, I got bored while reading sometimes.
I recommend this book to kids that enjoy reading about presidents and history ages 10-15.
Sincerely,
Shianne Salazar :)
Dear Shianne, Great readers journal!! I have some questions about the book though. What are some cause and effect relationships. What is the pattern of organization of this book. What was the authors purpose. what were some words that you did not know in this book. What could you relate this book to. Sincerely, Roxanne Fine 702
ReplyDeleteDear Roxy,
ReplyDeleteThanks. I am ready to answer your questions:
1. There weren't cause and effect relationships per say it just talked about the people he knew
2. The authors organization was DK publishing
3. There were no words i did not understand
4. There's nothing to really relate this book.
next time ask more specific questions,
Sincerely
shianne salazar
Dear Shianne,
ReplyDeleteI like your readers journal, but I have some questions. First, what was the P.O.O.? Also, what were some of the cause and effect relationships? Lastly, were some figurative language examples?
