RJ #17

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,

I currently finished reading, Wayside school gets a little stranger. By: Louis Sachar. I have read Holes, one of his books so I thought I would read this one. This is thrid and final book in the wayside school series. Yes, I have read book 1 and 2. But, I have never done a journal on either.i liked the last chapter called: The little stranger. I liked this chapter because, I realized that the book is not called Wayside school gets a little stranger because it is stranger ( which it is) but because, they meet a little stranger, Mrs. Jewle's baby.

I used six strategies while reading, 2 before, 2 during and 2 after.

2 before
I read the synopsis
  1. I read book 1 and 2

2 during:

  1. after every chapter I would summarize what I read
  2. if I did not understand something I would re-read it.

2 after:

  1. I summarized the whole book in my head
  2. I discussed it with my mom
The genre of this book is humor, the sub genre would be fantasy, because it has things like people with a third ear on their head. The protagonists are: Louis, The students, Mrs. Jewels, and Miss. Mush. The antagonist are: Mrs. Drazil, Mrs. Nogard , and Mr. Gorf.
The P.O.O. Is chronological order, it is this because it goes by time. P.O.V. Is 3rd person because someone was narrating, the narrator knew what they were thinking and knew what they knew, nothing more. The author's purpose was to entertain with a hilarious story about a messed up school.

This book is about the grand re-opening of Wayside School after the cow flood. The student finally get back to Wayside. But everybody on the 3oth floor insist the school has gotten bigger. Mrs. Jewles announces she's has a baby and has to go on leave, so they will get a sub teacher, Mr. Gorf, they relizes Mr. Gorf is Mrs. Gorf's son, and Mr. Gorf is out to steal their mommies away from the just like how they did to him. They get rid of him, then they get Mrs. Drazil, she is a control freak that Louis had many years ago, and she makes him cut off his mustache, she may be the nicest teacher they ever had but she mad Louis cut of his mustache, SHE MUST GO. They get rid of her, by finding a student she used to have many years ago, that never did her homework, but moved, they found her then when Mrs. Drazil got her she chased her until no one will ever see either of them again. Then they get Ms. Nogard, she is an evil, cruel lady, but they don't know that, she has three, ears I mean, the third is on top of her head, that one can hear thoughts. One day she was at the art museum and she saw a shy man she heard his thought that she liked him, they started dating, then a month later he proposed, she wouldn’t marry him until she showed him her ear, when he saw it he left her, to become a heart breaker. She became a bitter and evil person, whenever she heard someone thinking happy thoughts she'd do and saw whatever to make them sad. So she became a sub teacher. If some was thinkingplease don't call on me! I don't know the answer! She'd cal on them. Until Mrs. Jewels had her baby and she tried to listen to the baby's thoughts all she heard was enough love to knock her senses back.

The figurative language are similes, metaphors and personification.

I would rate this book 10/10 because it was hilarious, and a quick read and it was very descriptive. I would recommend this book to kids ages 11-14 who love to read funny books with a good story behind it. IF YOU ARE THIS TYPE OF PERSON THEN I RECOMMEND IT TO YOU IF YOU ARE NOT DON'T!

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,

I currently finished reading, Monster High: The ghoul next door by: Lisa Harrison. This is book #2 in the Monster High series. Yes, I have read BOOK #1, I did last week's journal on it. I liked the part when Celo told her dad that she would be totally adult if he let her do the photo shoot. And she totally lied. So I thought it was really funny that she just totally went back on what she said. This book, unlike the last one, had chapters including: Cleo, Frankie, and Melody. Appose to the last book which only included Frankie and Melody.

I used six strategies while reading, 2 before,2 during, and 2 after.

Two before:

I read the synopsis
I went on a website about the book to see what other people thought about it.
Two during:

    1. after every chapter I summarized what I read
    1. if I did not understand something I would re-read it

Two after:
    1. I summarized the book in my head
    2. I discussed it with my mom

The genre of this book is Fantasy, the sub genre was partially realistic Fiction even though it had monsters in it.
The protagonists are ( from Frankie’s point of view): Herslef, Her mom, Dad, Cleo, Melody, Brett and all the rads.
The antagonists are ( from Frankie’s point of view): Melody, Brett, Bekka, Celo.

The protagonists are ( from Melody's point of view): Herself, Jackson, Candace, and the RADs
The antagonist is ( from Melody's point of view): Cleo, Bekka.

The protaganist are( from Celo's point of view): HERSELF.
The Antagnist are ( from Celos Point of view): Bekka, Frankie,Melody, Brett, and all the RADs that don't put “her needs” first.

I love how this book was set up every other chapter was Frankie, Melody, or Celo and I liked that chapter 13 was Billy. The POV was 3rd person and the way the author did it was, lets say the chapter was about Melody and she saw something that Frankie knew about, the author wouldn’t mention it in Melody's chapter. The POO is chronological order. The author's purpose was to entertain.

This book took place right were book 1 left off. Where at the dance Frankie kissed Brett and her head fell off. Where Bekka Threaten Melody to find the “green monster” who “attacked” Brett, or she'd post the video of Jackson turning into D.J. , his other half. At the hospital Brett finds out it was Frankie who he kissed. Meanwhile,Celo gets a job to model in TEEN VOGUE mag. She is afraid of losing her attention/ popularity because of Melody and Frankie that she lies and tells LA LA , Clawdeen, and Blue. That she got them jobs too!Meanwhile, Frankie and Brett start to go out, and Brett decides that he should do a face blurred documentary of the RADs so every teen RAD decides to do it. Exept Celo because she finds out that it is on the same day as her TEEN VOUGE shoot and when her friends don't want to do it anymore she makes a plan with Bekka to trash the movie. Then, the man who is producing the movie is made that it is blurred so, they cancel it all together. But then the guy lies and says he is going to put it on air even though it is blurred. Brett decided have a celebration party at his house with all the RADs, then they watch it, to see see it's unburied!

The figurative language are; similes and metaphors.

I would rate this book 5/5 because I loved it! I loved it because of the characters and the way the book was set up. I recommend this book to teen girls ages 12-16 who like modern day/ teen books and like fantasy/ drama. IF YOU ARE THIS TYPE OF PERSON THEN I RECOMMEND IT TO YOU IF YOU ARE NOT DON'T!

P.S. IF YOU DO NOT PLAN ON READING MY RJ DO NOT COMMENT, I WILL JUST GET REALLY MAD AND WILL JUST IGNORE YOUR “QUESTION”

Title:Animal shelter's behavior experts face life and death decisions for animal

Author: JOHN OWENS

Source:Miami Herald

The topic of the article is: mistreatment

The main idea of the article is (stated) Animal shelter's behavior experts face life and death decisions for animal

The author’s purpose for writing this article is to inform people about the harm done in animal shelters.

The author’s perspective in this article is objective/subjective ( biased) he argues both sides, however, he does not use words like “I” and “ME”. But he does put his opinion in.

The pattern of organization of the article is argument and support, it is this because, the author states his argument with facts.

The reason the author chose this pattern for the article is argument and support because,  he lists his argument/opinion then puts in facts to support it.

The text features included in the article are: the title to give you a little inside about what it will be about. And quotes from others.

This article is about animal behavior specialist mistreating the animals at the shelters, and then see that after the fact the animals are unsuitable for adoption, then put to death. About the harm done in animal shelters.

The significance (importance) of this article is that the public needs to be informed about the mistreated animals at shelters, it's not fair to the animals, basically what the “specialists” are taking the animals hurting them, then decide that there not good enough for adoption.

What I learned from this article is that animals are being mistreated at shelters, and the specialist think they know what their doing by giving, quote-on-quote: Demeaning. Unnecessary.

What I liked about this article is that, the author gives a strong opinion with good facts to support his opinions.

I didn't like the fact that the article had no pictures.

People that love animals should read this article, so that they can know what goes on at these shelters ( the article even states that there is a Anti-Cruelty Society) so maybe they can do something about it. And I think behavioral specialist should read this too, so they can for them selves how bad to worse this has really gotten since 27years ago.

This article reminds me of (text-to-self) my dog, Cookie, and how horrible I would feel to see that she is would be mistreated then be put to death , its just sad.

(Text-to-text) I never knew about this, and I am glad I am now informed with this information. (text-to-world) This is something that goes on at most likely every animal shelter , nation wide. This is a big problem, that is still going on.

Dear Mrs. Zrihen,

I currently finished Monster High By: Lisi Harrison. I have never read a book by this author, but I know she's written a lot of books including the very popular Clique series. I know when you here monster high you think of the dolls for 6 year old's or the web show for 8-10 year old's but to my surprise this book was great. It had basically nothing to do with the dolls and such. The only thing was less than half the characters where in this book. This book has high teenage content, so that proved you cannot judge a book by it's name.

This book is about a girl, Frankie Stein who is 15, days old. Her father Viktor is an inventor/ collage teacher. He created Frankie in his lab, every day he put in a years worth of knowledge, so when she hit 15 days he stop mentally aging her. A couple days later Frankie's Mom and Dad told her about the RADs ( Regular Attribute Dodgers) which are all the monsters, she finds out her parents are RADs too! They tell her that back in the 1930s and before Monsters and Normies ( what RADs call humans) lived peacefully all over America ,but when horror movies came out Normies started to think the Monsters were playing tricks on them. Ever since then monsters had to move to Salem,Organ and form the RADs and hide. Then Frankie has to go to Merston High School were she may mess everything up for the RADs...
This book is about a girl, Melody Carver who is 15, and is moving to Salem, Organ for a couple of reasons, she has asthma and the air in Salem is better for her to breath, She was bullied because of her nose. She had the biggest, ugliest nose in all of Los Angeles and probably the country. The only thing someone would talk to her about is her about is her angelic voice but when she loses it to asthma at age 8 she is just considered another ugly face in the crowd until her father, the plastic surgeon operates and makes her nose perfect! Now she is probably the prettiest girl in Salem, Organ. But Melody is ANYTHING but a snob!

I used six strategies while reading two before, two during and two after.

Two before:
    1. I read the synopsis
    2. I went on a website about the book to see what other people thought about it.

Two during:

    1. after every chapter I summarized what I read
    1. if I did not understand something I would re-read it

Two after:
    1. I summarized the book in my head
    2. I discussed it with my mom

The protagonists are ( from Frankie’s point of view): Herslef, Her mom and Dad and all of the RAD's
The antagonists are ( from Frankie’s point of view): Melody, Jackson, and Normies in general.

The protagonists are ( from Melody's point of view): Herself, Jackson and her family
The antagonist is ( from Melody's point of view): Cleo.

I love how this book was set up every other chapter was Frankie or Melody. The POV was 3rd person and the way the author did it was, lets say the chapter was about Melody and she saw something that Frankie knew about, the author wouldn’t mention it in Melody's chapter.
