Dear Mrs. Zrihen,
I just finished reading Half Minute Horrors By: Various Authors. Most of them new to me. My favorite story is Chocolate Cake by Francine Prose:
Lately, I've had the definite feeling my parents aren’t my parents my parents. I can't exactly explain it. But I’m convinced that they're space aliens who look and act like my parents and have taken their places.
I've been asking them trick questions to trip them up. “Dad, what was the name of my first puppy?” “UH.... Fluffy?” “His name was Earnest” I say. “ I've got a lot on my mind: says “Dad”
Tonight I’m trying something new. My real mom is horribly allergic to chocolate. She breaks out in a skin rash if she even looks at chocolate. I bake my fake mom a chocolate birthday cake. I watch her eat it. No rash. She smiles.
“Delicious,” she says “ Thank you Timmy”
“My name is Jimmy” I say.
I liked it because it was really a twist. Out of all of the stories, poems and comics that was my favorite. And I have to say that the stories actually scared me a lot. My to ten favorite stories are:
Chocolate cake- Francine Prose
At waters edge- Ayelet Waldman
An easy gig- M.T. Anderson
Don't wet the bed- Alan Gratz
The prisoner of Eternia- Aaron Renier
The doll- Alice Kuipers
Worms- Lane Smith
Tiger Kitty- Joyce Carol Oates
In conclusion- Gregory Maguire
The dare- Carol Gorman.
I used six strategies while reading in total two before reading, two during reading and two after reading. Two before: 1) plan out what I am going to read and when. 2) skim and scanned the book for text features. Two during: 1) I would summarize each story 2) Depending on the author I would think about what that story would be like. Two after: 1) I thought about the main idea of each story. 2) discussed it with my mom.
The genre of this book is short story the sub genres are Horror and Humor. A lot of the stories had to do with death. The P.O.O of each story was chronological order the P.O.V was in either 3rd person or 1st person (depending on the story). The figurative language were similes. The text features were pictures, subtitle, and legends.
The summary on the back is:
How scary can thirty seconds be!?
Read the shortest, scariest, stories every created by: *then it lists the authors. Some of the authors were some I knew very well like James Patterson, Lemony Snicket, and R.L Stine.
I recommend this book to kids that are not easily frightened (unlike me) and love scary stories.
I would rate these stories 10/10 because they were really cool and fun to read so cool that I finished the entire book in one day.
Sincerely,
Shianne Salazar
P.S. I'm sleeping in my moms bed tonight!
Dear, Shianne
ReplyDeleteI liked your readers journal a lot because you included some main passages you were interested in l also liked the fact you put PS IM SLEEPING IN MY MOMS BED TONIGHT this made me feel like this book has very scary stories in them.
What was the mood?
What was the tone?
What are some clues you used to find the pattern of organization?
How much scary stories does this book have?
Why do you think the author included very scary things?
If you were the author would you write exactly the opposite of what the author have wrote for example about happy things?
Looking forward for your readers journal next week:)
Sincerely, Bar Peretz
Dear Shianne,
ReplyDeleteI really like how descriptive you were in this reader’s journal especially your plot structure. Although, I do have about 3 different questions about your reader’s journal. My first question is, what is the tone and mood in this book? What was the point of view according to your favorite short story. My last question is what would you do (according to your favorite short story) if you were in the main characters spot would you have taken care of it the way it was taken care of? what I suggest for your next readers journal is to go over it and check to see if it sounds right and everything you need is in there.
your friend Ofek Peer
Dear Shianne, Great job on readers journal. You did a good job on using vivid details. I have some questions. What was the mood of this book? What was the tone of this book? What was the authors purpose pf writing this book? What was the authors perspective of this book? What other ways did you rate this book? Sincerely, Roxanne fine 702
ReplyDeleteDear Ofek,
ReplyDelete1. if i were the main character of my favorite story i would probably run away right after i gave her the chocolate cake.
2.The tone is scary and the mood is suspicious.
3. 1st person.
thanks, Shianne
Dear Bar,
ReplyDeleteThe tone is scary and the mood is suspicious
Put it this way if the book only had 10 stories 9 of them were scary.
They included very scary things because they wanted to entertain it was almost like watching a scary movie.
No, actually i would have wrote the same disturbing things but the thing is i can't.
Thanks, Shianne
